[ QUOTE ]
I have no idea of how contracts work in the NFL, but lets say that he wont ever be able to play, does he get shafted or does he still make a % of his salary?

[/ QUOTE ]

Palmer signed a 6 year extension on 12/29/05.

The Bengals could cut him and not pay him future salaries. However, Palmer would keep all the signing bonus money and the Bengals would take an immediate salary cap hit.

Presumably, Palmer also has some type of insurance for this type of career-ending injury. So, you can worry about his physical health. But, I'm sure his economic health is great.

"Paulos was able to repair the knee without removing pieces of cartilage or soft tissue, a good sign.

"The things that were torn could be repaired," he said. "They were not torn beyond repair. So he's got all his parts in there, which is good. We're optimistic, actually."

If rehabilitation goes well, Palmer could be running in a couple of months and might be able to play in the first regular season game, Paulos said. The 2006 schedule hasn't been set."

There is a lot of optimism in this article.

title is pretty misleading. all knee lig injuries are potentially career-ending, obviously. however, the article actually paints a very promising picture.

I have no affiliation to the Bengals, but as a football fan I hope he gets back ASAP.

While Cincy has always been a rival, the fans in Cincy have always been loyal and fun. I had Palmer on my fantasy team this year which made me pay more attention to the Cincy games and I enjoyed watching him play. He really made things exciting in Cincy and I hope he makes a full recovery and is ready for next year. Cincy deserves some good fortune for once!

This is horrible. Such a young promising future and he was already the 3rd best QB in the game IMO and he seems like a good guy. I hope he's OK.

The fact that he's a QB means this is alot better than it could be. He'll be able to be an effective QB even if he has lingering problems from that knee. That wouldn't be the case if he was a RB or a defensive player.
