Re: United 93...Possible to review objectively?
[ QUOTE ]
You can't objectively review anything, so it's a moot point. [/ QUOTE ] I agree, but I guess I think there's different degrees of it somehow. Most critics can look at a typical movie and review it "based on its merits as a film"(using the words my friend used to describe how he feels critics can review the movie). I just think there are way too many LARGE issues surrounding the film for that not to be true with crtics in this case. I think critics realize a lot of people are weary and sensitive about the release of this film and thus are just going to praise it as a magnificant film, naturally. |

Re: United 93...Possible to review objectively?
Overall, I liked the movie and thought that it was done well. Although it is VERY slow in the beginning of the film, once the hijackings begin, it picks up. I've wondered particularly how accurate a lot of the movie is, in regards to how the military guys reacted to it and rules of engagement and how to approach the situation. [ QUOTE ] Well if it doesn't have the upside down diving airplane fight scene then I give it the thumbs down because it's unrealistic. Re: United 93...Possible to review objectively?
I think it can be reviewed fairly. There have already been at least two made-for-TV movies on Flight 93, and they had mixed reviews. "Flight 93" on A&E garnered a lot of negative reviews. "The Flight that Fought Back" on Discovery Channel seemed to fair better. "United 93" seems to be receiving near universal praise--I am almost certain it is the best of the three.

Re: United 93...Possible to review objectively?
I think I reviewed the movie fairly from an aesthetic standpoint, but I also put it in the context of the event it depicts.
You can't separate the two, even if you wanted to. And I watched the A&E movie today, and it sucked. "Flight 93" <<<<<< "The Flight That Fought Back" < United 93. |

Re: United 93...Possible to review objectively?
Saw it this weekend. I thought it did an amazing job of presenting the confusion on September 11. There were so many parties involved and so much information (and misinformation) flowing, and it was impossible to make sense of it all in a very short amount of time. There were 4200 planes in the air* during the midst of the confusion.
They also did a pretty good job of not politicizing the story. There may have been political bias snuck in there, but it seemed pretty even-handed to me. And the passengers on United 93 were not made out to be heroes, but normal people that found themselves in an unbelievable situation in which they were forced to take action. There isn't much character development, as we're thrown in the middle of it just as they were--a group of strangers. I give it a solid A. It is a brutal reminder of the horror of the day, and that's not a bad thing, imho. -Z *I thought they said 4200 over the eastern seaboard, but my brother thought they said 4200 over the entire country, so I'm not sure. |

FWIW critics weren't exactly raving about the television version of same topic.

Re: United 93...Possible to review objectively?
nothing is ever reviewed in a vaccuum. Nothing you read or see or hear is ever a 100% objective opinion. One's views/politics/prejudices always cloud the issue.
