i like a flop c/r better than a flop lead... a flop lead will just be called by villain and once again checked through on the turn, probably. this whole thing sucks being out of position. but as played, he has to has to check the river.

Duck,
Why checked through on flop?
Hero would/should bet turn again.

Ya, sets do suck out of position. But this is a pretty good flop against a 1st pos. raiser with aces to extract

Mark,

You put villain on AK and think your friend should bet the pot on the river w/ 66-KK. Why?

I am in a debate over the way AA was played in the $10 - $20 NL at Commerce. UTG (villan) makes it $90 to go with AA. One other caller and my friend (hero)calls in the BB with 33.

The flop comes 5-5-3 and hero checks and villan with AA bets about half the pot or $160, hero calls. A J hits the turn, hero checks and villan checks!

A blank hits the river, hero bets $600 and villan folds.

Hero says villan is a very good player and this hand shows his ability to make big lay downs when he feels he is beat. I just don't see how he can't bet the turn. Any comments?

The only questionable part is the river fold. I think there's a case to be made for calling a lot of players there. On teh interweb I probably would.

But it's live, so you get a read, so I'm not going to second guess this guy.

A lot of players will bet the river with any PP after the turn gets checked through. I realize that it's a really bad play to bet 77 on the river in Hero's spot, but most players will do it.

I've played some online hands where I've checked behind on the turn with the 100% intention of calling a river bet, but then folded because my opponent bet the full size of the pot when they typically underbet their marginal/blocking hands. (I've also played some hands where I was like "wtf! why did he bet so much! well my plan was to call, so I'll.... oh [censored], he does have a set")
