[ QUOTE ]
wow, usually these things are really funny. this one was quite tame. [/ QUOTE ] Yup, these are setup to be a roast of the President & all things around him. Colbert took a couple shots, but it was nothing different than an episode of Colbert Report. |

Letting him to this is one of the dumbest things the administration has done.
PS: my friends and I didnt believe he was serious when he said he was going this at the end of last week |

How the hell did he ever get booked in the first place? Surely SOMEONE must have realized how scathing and awkward that was going to be? Don't get me wrong, it's awesome (this AND the NFL draft AND Mifflin St Block party = best Saturday ever)... but, I mean... seriously? How does this even happen?

[/ QUOTE ] Ive thought about this... right now, my best guess is that whomever booked him, saw the show a few times, and assumed he did in fact like Bush |

CMI,
From the comments section of the C&L post linked above: [ QUOTE ] I heard one of Imus's moron sidekicks a couple of weeks ago talking about how much better Colbert was than Stewart. It was fairly obvious that he really though Colbert was a right-wing goofball, not just "playing one on TV" [/ QUOTE ] So it wouldn't at all surprise me. Or maybe they just thought he'd tone it down, not realizing that Stephen Colbert has GIANT BRASS BALLS. |

[/ QUOTE ] have you guys ever seen one of these before? having it be awkward and scathing is the primary focus. colbert was a joke compared to the stuff that usually gets said. go find clips from some of the other years. this was nothing. |

I'm reading comments about it from multiple sites and you're the only person I've seen saying this. I have my doubts, but I haven't seen one of these before. I understand that it's usually supposed to be a bit of a "roast" situation, but I can't imagine it's always that scathing regarding actual, serious matters. If it is, then my question simply turns into "how in the hell didn't Bush ban these things when he first took office?"

i was flipping through the channels just as the ceremony started and remembered colbert was gonna be on and watched the whole thing. so so so funny. bush went from a "haha, he does a good me" to "oh man, now im pissed" very quickly. when colbert actually addressed the president and looked at him and started laughing was the best.
