Re: A small selection of sticky notes
These are a few I used to have on a sticky (probably still should...). Obviously they don't always apply:
Don't bluff anyone without a read Two pair is not worth your stack Don't go broke in an unraised pot Fold trash hands in the small blind irrespective of pot odds If an average player makes a big bet, they have the goods |

Re: A small selection of sticky notes
You don't need top pair to value bet.

Re: A small selection of sticky notes
I have a piece of paper next to my computer, with, in big letters, the words: "Don't be stupid.". It helps.

DON'T BUILD A POT WITH TOP PAIR. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe here it should be "Don't build a big pot ... OOP". I'm realizing slowly how desicive is having position in marginal situations. And how stupid I was of not seeing it before. Now everyone calls a raise of mine in position I feel directly like cheated. regards, dardo |

These are a few I used to have on a sticky (probably still should...). Obviously they don't always apply: Don't bluff anyone without a read [/ QUOTE ] I often have reads like "what? he can't call!" .. the annoying thing is, they're right often enough that I feel dumb ignoring them. The really annoying thing is that I'm way more likely to remember when they're right than when I piss away my stack in small-to-medium sized chunks. I mean, how many pots do you win without a showdown? A lot, right? So why did you need a real hand? [ QUOTE ] Two pair is not worth your stack [/ QUOTE ] That's a little too advanced for me. Right now, it's more like "Top Pair is not worth 1/2 of your stack". [ QUOTE ] If an average player makes a big bet, they have the goods [/ QUOTE ] Yup. I often wonder what average players have when it goes "they limp, I raise, they call. they lead flop for ~4/5-pot, I raise to ~2/3-pot, they fold" though. And that happens a few time per table per session, usually when I'm hoping they'll fold. I suppose that's against specific players, but I see them pretty often. |

Two pair is not worth your stack [/ QUOTE ] I hate statements like this. You can't evaluate a hand like 'two pair' or 'top pair' absent the texture of the board, your opponent, your image, the action etc. There are times to fold big hands and there are times to felt middle pair or TPGK. |
