yes you should hate yourself. PF is a fold, if you choose to play it then you need to be raising flop.

Huh? Fold AJo in a 6-handed game?

In hands like this, I'd normally check-call the flop and turn for reasons such as the OP describes, especially if villan will fold a smaller pair to a check-raise, then bet out on the river. A lot of people will look you up with a worse hand, hands with which they would check behind. Win the max, lose the min . . .

I think that the flush draw supports checking the turn. If you bet the turn you risk being raised by AcX (X probably is a K-T based on your description). You'll probably never increase your win by betting out on the turn, might jeopardize even winning one more bet if they fold a worse hand that they'd bet with, and could lose three bets if they raise you (and you c-c the river).

If he checks behind on the turn you bet the river, of course.

Well played, river has to be close to a check/fold. If you call the river bet its a crying call.

Thanks! By what you, PJ and most others have had to say I feel better about the way I played the hand. It's just that I always feel lame when I take such a passive line but I was thinking just what PJ had to say. It's a WA/WB hand and I don't want him to fold an underpair and I don't want to pay the max to showdown.

Chris you are a young asian kid and play with california people. Howard is an older white guy who plays with the casino AZ folk, I'm surprised the guy didn't turn up AK and check it down on the river

Did I mention results above? Here they are since I don't think so:

Villain had 99 w/ a club. He knew very well that river bet wasn't going to work but he did it anyway. I think he was a bit off his game tonight. Earlier he'd called 2 to my 3-bet on the button from the BB w/ A-10o. Flopped an Ace and c/r'd me. I tossed my 10-10. Like I said, I think he was having an off night.

btw: I'm young at heart. I could stand to lose more than a few pounds. And if this hand went down at Commerce I think I'd have c/r the flop and kept firing.

Why not checkcall the flop and turn, and then bet/fold on the river?

That's a good line and is why I titled the post as I did. However, I don't know that I could b/f the river and also if I bet he's not going to pay off w/ a worse hand but he might fire that 3rd barrel in desperation. We respect each other's play which is one of the reasons that I was unsure what to do in the hand.

Your other suggestion is good too.
