1) High hand jackpot (this is a good trick for getting people to stay until the game ends.) 2) bigger blinds (loosens players up) or make the dealer post a blind (not unheard of in NL) 3) sushi eating conest w/jackpot 4) some females in the game 5) topless or scantly clad female dealer 6) chips with parrot pictures on them 7) German fetish porno movies on a big screen 8) PLO short handed (under 7) NLH full table (over 7) 9) Journey live in Houston playing continously -J [/ QUOTE ] MAN, that's SOME home game you're running. Is Journey set up in the other room, or is the outdoor stadium within hearing distance? |

Re: Looking to spice up a new home game
We do a high hand jackpot at all our home games and it definately loosens up the table. We have the same blinds as you and have a mix of omaha and nl holdem ring games (mostly holdem tho).
What I do is take one dollar from every person's buy-in (and re-load) and keep it seperate from the kitty. To win our high hand pot you have to make a strait flush to the ten or higher in holdem using both cards, or make a royal flush in omaha. Everytime the pot gets over 100-200 people (even the rocks) will call with any 7s10s or 8sQs. We also put 10% from the current highhand pot when it's won into the next highhand pot. Our payouts so far have been 35, 151, 412, 251, 189, 205 cheers, benny multiple line omaha also adds some excitement but gets crazy splitting all the pots... |

Re: Looking to spice up a new home game
Add a kill pot. If a player wins two hands in a row then he is in for higher blind. If you play .25/.50 then on a kill hand it is .75 to go or even a $1.
For even more fun add a Hi/Lo. But you really need your guys to like action. |

Re: Looking to spice up a new home game
Start introducing new games using a timer (with dealer choice you get everyone choosing holdem apart from one or two, then the others just fold their stud etc hands at the first chance). ie for 20 min we will be playing...
Then introduce them slowly over time starting with pineapple and irish (pineapple with 4 instead of 3 cards) make good opening choices - then bring in omaha hi, then omaha split games, then draw (5 draw then triple draw) and finally introduce the stud games (5, 7 high, low and then split). Do it slowly over a few games and by the time your playing Stud split you can drop the times and do it on dealers choice as the fear factor will have been removed. No one runs before they can walk, but after a while they will see how much fun dealers choice games can get. |
