Re: When do you stop picking up the check?
if she doesn't at least offer to pay (for something) on the second date, there is no third date
but if I like her, I won't let her contribute until the third or fourth |

Re: When do you stop picking up the check?
[ QUOTE ]
I've always wondered what would happen when (more like if) I ever get a date and I expect the gal to split the bill. I'm not cheap by any means but it's the whole principle. I firmly believe in equal rights and I'm totally against pointless traditions. So this along with the fact that women nowadays are pushing towards equal rights will make me refuse to pay for the whole bill. [/ QUOTE ] Good luck with that. I know girls that consider the guy not paying on the first date to be a deal-breaker. I think the guy should play his role for the first date. After that, you can make up whatever rules you want and gauge if they will fly. I am currently dating a girl and I have paid for the first two dates, no questions asked. If there is not an offer to pay from her at the next date, I doubt I will see her again(unless I score). It sets a bad precedent and I'm not really interested in a girl that doesn't at least offer(which I would refuse). DN |

If she [censored] me after dinner #1, I pick up dinner #2 and from then on we are basically just pretending to be a couple while she [censored] me for food and drinks. [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: When do you stop picking up the check?
[ QUOTE ]
Private Joker, Anything past the third or fourth date without an offer on her part would start to raise some questions in my head. MatthewRyan, What if she doesn't offer to pick up the second? Basically, how do you announce you're not so desperate that you'll pay for all her meals, and how do you do that without sounding like a bitch? [/ QUOTE ] In my experience, the girls always start offering to pick up the tab or take us out to dinner. If they never offer, you either have a problem on your hands or you are really rich and they dont think about it. |

Re: When do you stop picking up the check?
Age I think may be a factor -- younger girls may be quicker to offer than older ones. My girlfriend of 3+ years has never offered (nor have I ever thought she would or should) to pay for anything when we go out. (And on the financial side, she has quite a bit more money than I do.) But we're both old (at least for this board - each in our 30's) so it's probably more standard than when you're younger... Across the board, I can't think of a single one of my male friends who doesn't pay for everything when they go out with their girlfriends OR any of my female friends who have ever dropped a dime.

Re: When do you stop picking up the check?
As long as you have an understanding you should be fine no matter how you work it: If you pay, then she puts out. If she pays, you will of course be happy to put out.
It's only fair. |
