didn't he always talk like that?

That's what I was thinking, too. And he's had the same gray hair forever. I was surprised to see he's only 62 (younger than Lou Piniella). And if Moneyball is ever adapted for the big screen, Philip Baker Hall definitely plays Gammons.

he definitely sounds worse, although i hadn't seen him on tv for probably a year before a couple weeks ago. i don't know if he's declining now or improving since his aneurysm or what, but his speech is noticeably slurred and stuttered

I haven't noticed anything unusual. He bounced back from the aneurysm like a champ.

Geez, he's 62. i think he looks pretty decent for 62 actually.
my Dad is 61 and easily looks 10 years older than Gammons.

I haven't watched him a whole lot lately but he's done some stuff on Sunday Night baseball etc and I really didn't notice him performing all that badly. He did much better coming back from his stroke than I expected.
I was half-expecting him to be kind of like a Dick Clark up there (super sad to watch imo) but Gammons isn't anywhere close to that.

lol steve phillips is a moron but he does a pretty good job of presenting his stupid ideas, at least. he speaks well, unlike the other people who are equally dumb AND speak poorly (eduardo perez, etc).

I think the opposite, he has attempts at good ideas but totally wrecks them when he starts talking. He can't get anything across with any clarity.

Overall, I feel that the constant bashing of on-air personalities on this board is just obnoxious and ignorant. But, having said that, this is the funniest sh*t I've read in a while!

A Steve Phillips comment tonight, summarized:

If they make a trade, it's either supposed to help them in the short term or further in the future.

I guess this is opposed to all the trades that retroactively help your team. Back to Gammons, I never listened to the guy religiously, but I thought the little lisp was something he always had? I haven't really been all that distracted by it.
