Regardless of what he intended to do I don't see any way this story is going to read other than him going outside with the intention of hitting the kids with the bat.

You need to make sure that your mom, or an attorney, or someone gets through to your dad at the police station and makes sure that he does not talk to the police. He is probably very upset right now and police are very good at exploiting people's emotional weaknesses.

shop around for a top criminal defense attorney. I have some friends in that circle and i may be able to make some recommendations. looks like diminished capacity will be your fathers best defense but that might be a hard sell. What are the charges? Murder or manslaughter?

I don't know anything about anything here, but

1. Florida has some pretty lenient self defense laws.

2. You should pay a lot of money for a lawyer ASAP.

3. Your dad shouldn't say anything to the police until after he talks to his lawyer. This is serious and important. Police-folk very often lie to suspects in order to get them to admit things. Police-folk are better than suspects at this game. "My son will be putting me in touch with my lawyer in the morning, and I've been instructed not to talk to you until then."

4. Like I said, I don't know anything about anything here, so if someone else's advice sounds better, it probably is.

Well I am in the airport now. Hopefully my Dad has kept quiet. Will get a lawyer ASAP, (does anyone know if these legal fees will be tax deductable?)
