Re: Vegas in July nuts? Too hot?
You'll be fine. It's a dry heat. The only issue I have ever had in July was not realizing that it was hot and laughing at news reports like, it's 117 degrees blah blah blah. You don't sweat, the moisture is just wicked out of your body, so you can be dehydrated and not even know it until you get a headache. Drink some water every 45 minutes whether you think you are hot or not, and you'll be fine. The only issue I've ever had in July is that once I was there and they had a flood. Jeebus, I can stay at home and have all the floods I'd ever want or need. But that's been a few years and I'm over it. Well, that's two "only issues," but really it just isn't that big of a deal. My vote is to enjoy your July freebies, I honestly believe you won't regret it.

Re: Vegas in July nuts? Too hot?
Morning of the WSOP last year I decided to go for a quick two-mile run. At 10a, it was 110 degrees outside and I made it about three blocks.
Stay inside and you'll be fine. |

Re: Vegas in July nuts? Too hot?
I'm from the Midwest and I've lived in Vegas. Hot is hot, but you'll survive.....probably. I'd rather have a Vegas 100, than a Midwest 89 w/ 100% humidity! However, even at night it feels like someone opened an oven door and you're standing right next to it (or in it! ;-)). A breeze makes it actually feel hotter.
Flamingo may have swim-up blackjack |

Re: Vegas in July nuts? Too hot?
I have to disagree with what everyone is saying here. Once the heat hits 110.5+, you risk bursting into flames on the spot. You have to be insanely careful and pack your pants full of ice cubes when you go outside.

Re: Vegas in July nuts? Too hot?
WTF?
July = WSOP! I couldn't give a sh*t if it is 200 degrees outside. You just know it is going to be fine and cool in the cardrooms! (Well maybe not in the Rio tent, but that is another matter) If you spend more than 10 minutes per day outdoors at this time of year in Vegas you are nuts, but that shouldn't be a problem for any serious poker players, who will surely be sleeping the majority of daylight hours anyway. (Unless you happen to be playing a noon start time event at the series). |

Re: Vegas in July nuts? Too hot?
i'd never been far enough off the east coast to find out what dry heat was until i went to vegas two summers ago. it reached 119 while i was there and i swear i preferred this to 90 and humid in baltimore.

Re: Vegas in July nuts? Too hot?
health department says people in July will sweat 2 gallons of water a day is outside over three hours or something close to that.
Dry heat means you need to sweat more to cool the body. Dry heat at 110 deg. just HURTS and drains your energy. Stay in side from 11:00 to 5:00 and you are ok |

Re: Vegas in July nuts? Too hot?
I've lived in Texas my whole life but the summer heat still bothers me. In Dallas there will be a couple weeks each summer with the high over 100 every day for weeks straight. It is really oppressive if you have to be outside at all.
That being said, Vegas wasn't built for outdoor events, so you'll have a great time. Just be prepared to either sweat a lot while walking betweem casinos or cough up a few bucks for a cab. |

Re: Vegas in July nuts? Too hot?
One sort of off topic tip..............
My friend and I stayed downtown last August. Every day around 2pm(very hot...outside temperatures were around 110 degrees) we went to the Vu Bar at Fitzgeralds. Draft Bud and Bud light are $1.50 or $2 or something. There is a balcony overlooking Fremont Street. The balcony is misted. The temperature9on the balcony) there was consitently coming in around the high 80's. The high 80's never felt so good as on that balcony. We spent about 4-5 hours a day chilling on that balcony, drinking beer, and smoking cigars purchased from the little shop between El Cortez and LV Bl(the guy makes them himself). |

Re: Vegas in July nuts? Too hot?
I am concerned about the temp., not sunburn really. With my wife there I'll not be able to log many sessions at the poker table. She'll watch craps and blackjack even and I'll sit with her for slots (ugh), but I think poker would bore her. I'm just hoping that the Flamingo has swim up blackjack and/or craps. Sun, pool, (eye-candy) plus gambling.....DING DING DING we have a winner.
