I used to get "urban legend" e-mails from my dear old mom every week or so. I would politely write back something like, "Mom, this is an "urban legend" and not true. If you look at the website snopes.com, you'll see that..." and then I'd quote the passage from snopes debunking the urban legend.
The legends kept coming, and my replies became shorter and shorter, till finally I would just hit "reply all" and e-mail everyone she sent the legend to this e-mail: "THIS IS AN URBAN LEGEND: SEE SNOPES.COM" So now, I STILL get these legend e-mails from my mom. They are much less frequent, of course, but I still get them. And now (this kills me), she always puts at the top: "This may be an urban legend, I don't know, I didn't bother to check snopes.com, but it was so scary I wanted to send it just in case!! Love you, Mom" Arrrrgh.

Same thing with most mums'!
