I really don't see how they can make him pay taxes on the ball if he derives no income from the ball. The IRS can't compute 35% of sentimental value.

I'm sure there's someone out there would pony up 1-2 million for this ball.....If i were that guy i put up a set prize of about 1 million, and if there was heavy demand for it at that prize i'd bump it to 1.5 and so on until only one person was willing to pay for it.

If you receive a gift of land that produces no income you still have to pay tax on the value of the land. The painting example was also pretty good. |
