Don't tell him a thing until you accept the other position. He may still have pull over there and could your offer revoked. Don't believe it doesn't happen. Just don't be dishonest, but do not lay your cards on the table.

Tell him you have not made a decision, which is true since you haven't formally accepted their proposal. Make sure your new job is locked and loaded before you ditch this one.

"Tell him: "Got a verbal offer on Tuesday, just waiting for the paperwork to give my formal resignation.""

Correct.

If you're interested in a counter offer from him, let him know, otherwise tell him he's [censored].

As a supervisor/boss type, you simply can't get pissy when people leave. It happens, and your first thought shouldn't be "I HAVE BEEN WRONGED" it should be "what are my next steps".

I wouldn't work for a company that is so dumb that they can't keep their hiring processes confidential.

But to answer your question based on the information you've given, you say yes you are and you level with him.

[/ QUOTE ]

Then you wouldn't work in any ad agency in NY (not that you would anyway) b/c this [censored] leaks alllllll the time.

When I've gone for interviews I usually had to talk to 3-5 people and be brought all around the plant. It doesn't necessarily mean there is a leak in the hiring department.

Well he knows so it doesnt really matter what you do or say. I would hear him out and be courteous and professional. I dont think I would have a lot to say myself unless I was interested in hearing about counteroffers.

Id be interested to hear how it played out.

I wrote "company" not "hiring department."

A. Play them off each other for more $$

B. Tell your current boss that you have enjoyed working for/with him and that this is simply an opportunity that you think is best for your career. Wish him the best of luck in the future. If he has any class, he will do the same for you.

I agree with everyone in the playing it straight department.

I'm switching jobs and played it straight with my boss and was happy I did.

People switch jobs all the time. Like Dids said, as a supervisor he should realize this.

And like the other poster said, WTF can he do to you anyway?

I'm not surprised. Kilgore is a Masshole and Boston is a small town at heart.
