BTW, I think villain folds close to never preflop after making this raise. [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: KK early in tournament
push. anyone who raises 12.5x the BB to 250 is probably not going to fold to any preflop RR.
i expect to lose to aces here a significant amount of the time, but not nearly enough for me to get away from KK. |

[ QUOTE ] he's a moron, he has raised to 12.5 BB in an unopened pot [/ QUOTE ] FYP [/ QUOTE ] ty, it bothered me too. with regards to the hand...i shove preflop. i doubt a player like this who committed 1/6 of his stack to the hand preflop only to fold to a shove. flop 1: fold flop 2: call. he tables KJo and bongs the J. cursing ensues. |

Re: KK early in tournament
I actually like calling:
- You have excellent position, and the big raise makes it unlikely that anyone else will come along (set-mining from the blinds would be terrible here). If someone decides to re-raise, that's even better! - Unless an Ace shows, it will be very easy to get all-in on the flop. |

Re: KK early in tournament
Easy preflop shove. He's almost never folding, and has a wide variety of possible hands. Get it in very good against his range.

[/ QUOTE ] maybe me and you play different games, but when i see this, it is often someone trying to imitate a guy foolishly trying to protect 99. (trying to get a decent pot or no pot with AA rather than exposing himself to setfarmers for 80chips). but yes, something worse than KK is much more likely than AA. I would say AA is the single most common hand I'm up against, but in total, all the other hands outnumber it about 5:1. |

Re: KK early in tournament
just because you think it's stupid to raise AA this big here doesn't mean that this is AA an insignificant amount of the time. what's more stupid, raising to 12.5x with AA or raising to 12.5x with 77?
i can guarantee you that it is AA here much, much more often than when it is a 4x raise. the fact that everyone automatically lables the raiser a moron and assumes he's FOS is exactly why making this play with AA is not as bad as you think. |

Re: KK early in tournament
willie: I think you thoughts are interesting. I like over betting very strong hands too. But I do it when I think someone has the cards to try and "catch" me. What sucks about villains raise in this hand if he has AA, is that most often, nobody picks up any cards, and he wins t30.
And also: I'm not saying villain never has AA here. But IMHO, it has to be weighed out some. |
