how do i calculate this myself.lets say i start with 1500 chips and blinds at 25-50 what would be my PF? rounds are 15 minutes long and go up as follows 50-100,100-200,150-300,25 ante,200-400,50 ante,300-600,75 ante,500-1000,100 ante,800-1600,200 ante,1000-2000,300 ante,1500-3000,500 ante,2000-4000,500 ante,3000-6000 1000 ante,4000-8000,1000 ante.this is a 10 table live SNG please help thanks.

The easiest way to calculate this is to download the excel spreadsheet on Snyder's website. All you do is fill in the blinds and level time and it calculates the Patience Factor.
As for your specific example, it looks like it calculates as a PF of 1.38, which Snyder calls a Skill Level 0 tournament (i.e., a crapshoot). |

I use the Patience Factor for only one thing: to compare the structure of various tournaments to see which ones provide for more play, at least at the early levels. By comparing the structure of an event in which I have played against an event I am contemplating playing, I can see whether the event I'm contemplating is "slower" or "faster." I find this to be a helpful tool.
I suspect there is far more to the PF if you have read and agree with Snyder's book, but I have not read the book and cannot comment on that. |
