Wakefield has 16 wins this year and is 40 years old.
If he finishes with his first 20 win season and then maybe does that again next year and then maybe even the year after that to make it 3 straight 20-win seasons AND THEN pitches 7 or 8 more years after that meaning he pitched until he was 50 and THEN somehow finished with around 280+ wins then I think he would have a shot. Finishing with 20 wins this season would be a good start for him. Would be nice if he kept his ERA under 4 for his first 20 win season as well. But I don't believe he's even made a single all-star team for crying-out loud. But short of having some pretty exceptional seasons into his 40's this isn't very likely to happen. His numbers aren't even close to that of a non-Hall of Famer like Jim Kaat. Kaat pitched for 25 seasons which is 3rd all-time behind Nolan Ryan and Tommy John. He also had a 25 win seasons, over 280 career wins, and 16 gold-gloves. If Wakefield pitches 10 more seasons then he will tie Kaat with 25 seasons and his stats won't likely be even close to Kaat's. |

No chance. Wakefield has never been dominating. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe not for a whole season, but he was pretty incredible his rookie year, especially in the NLCS, where he outpitched Glavine twice in two CG wins (and probably would have been the game 1 WS starter were it not for Francisco Cabrera). Also, his first year with the Red Sox he started out 14-1 with a 1.65 ERA. A pretty dominating stretch. But I agree nowhere near enough for HOF consideration. |

He was a reliever for about a year as well, and has done some middle relief from time to time as well.
Didn't he come up in the minors as a first baseman? |

I love Wake, hope the Sox keep him for as long as he wants to play, but come on, HOF, seriously???!?!!?!?!??
Unless he pitches into his 50's he has no shot at all and even then its pretty unlikely |

I think it's kind of irrelevant, unless he wins 15 games a year til hes 55, anyone with a career 4.29 ERA and .537 winning percentage is not even close to getting into the Hall. |
