What range did you put him on preflop? Was it wide enough for you to 3 bet him with 77? Just curious.

[/ QUOTE ]

I felt like I could outplay him postflop.

I really feel like this is an expert play, but thanks for being the first to speak your mind.

NP.. I think if the PF action were less interested on his part that this play would indeed have been excellent.

...which is a good argument for just calling OTB and seeing what the flop brings.

I see both sides of this. Repping the rivered flush is sexy if you can convince your opponent to fold a better hand. The reason I lean somewhat towards the spewtastic camp is that in order for this bluff to work, the TAG villian needs put you on a hand that fits all streets that draws out on that river.

There just aren't many pf 3-betting hands that you can have that river this flush (assuming your TAG reputation has been noted). AKs, maybe AQs and KQs. His betting clearly indicated that he's got high cards himself, probably a big pocket pair, if he's holding one of the suit your bluff will fail. If he's got unimproved overcards, you're beating him anyway.

In this position, knowing you're TAG yourself and putting you on a range preflop, it's relatively easy for the villian to factoring in the chances you're bluffing (even if he thinks they are small) and call for one more with an overpair.

Subtract your 3-bet preflop and this bluff becomes much more believable, because your hand range opens up quite a bit to include more suited connectors that come up on the river.
