Re: 10k post
ahnuld, for those of us youngsters making low-mid 6 figures from poker (and theres probably a ton of us here) what would you recommend as a starting point for a long-term savings/retirement plan? put away 10k a year? 20k? where would you put it? thanks for the advice.

Re: 10k post
nice post ahnuld. lol just read your location JKratzer. i remember a year or two ago thinking 'wtf, this person is actually two different people, jkratzer and krantz...wtf'
[ QUOTE ] put away as much as you can. time does wonders with investments. [/ QUOTE ] i kinda agree in theory but in practice kinda not. i dont know if you've heard the expression 'look after the pennies (cents) and the pounds (dollars) look after themselves'. ive always thought about it the other way round 'look after the pounds (dollars) and dont give a [censored] about the pennies (cents)'. i.e. i dont really care about blowing $200 on a good night out if i then can go home and grind at $150-$250/hr for 20-30 hours a week. For example I blew a whole year's interest in a night out. now that really was stupid, but then i decided to grind really hard to win it back. i guess what im saying is that whilst the whole compound interest thing is nice, nothing beats being able to regular bring in a lot of money every month, as saving 75% of a lot of money and blowing the other 25% is a lot better than saving 90% of a normal monthly income and having to be scroogey. not saying you are at all, just saying i think the most imporant thing is to develop the monthly money making stream rather than trying to invest what you have. jkratzer, this is not at all suggesting anything about you, just what you said made me want to put what i just put. gl and good post ahnuld. ill read it properly again later. |
