A small % of people who play all the tournaments play for themselves.

Also, I don't know one way or another if he backed Carlos for the Championship. Just an assumption based on previous knowledge.

I think it was mentioned that Carlos got his WPT seat by winning some satellite.

"Interestingly, Phan is the only final tablist who bought into this tournament for the full $25,500. Laliberte, Morrison, Mortensen, and Wattel all won their seats in satellites, while Paul Lee earned his entry by winning a $2,000 no-limit hold'em preliminary event earlier this month."

That's not interesting at all--a large number of pros, backed or not, win their entries for the 25K event through satellites.

I think people falsely assume that if someone is playing a satellite, that means they will only play the main if they win.

Not to mention the fact that winning a satellite isn't grounds to dismiss the question of being staked.

Right, and I'm pretty sure, in fact, that at least 4 out of the 5 players who didn't buy in direct would have played regardless of satellite success (and that Tim would not have bought in if he had won a satellite!); it's just something the press still fixates on.
