For that matter, wasn't there supposed to be some league (PPL?) where the top 64 players were drafted by two team captains. I remember hearing them chat about the draft on high stakes at some point last year. Did that die on the launch pad?

I loved this idea in theory. But the featured tables they chose in early-stage episodes were absolutely terrible. You would think from the show that mustachioed, overweight fifty-something nits were the superstars of the poker world.

Also, the show would make bizarre editing decisions. Like the would show two hours of play going down from 18 to 9 players, but then skip coverage of the money bubble entirely, and not even tell you what happened before the final table .

Yeah, I thought that was stupid, too. And as Taso said, Seif and Corboy are the worst announcers in history.

Yes, and that, unlike the PPT, was a terrible idea.

Not surprised that the team thing bombed. Still, it seemed to me at the time that most of the people involved were more interested in the draft/popularity contest than in actually playing, so they probably didn't mind.

I watched the PPT and liked the format and the coverage.

Agreed, I'd like to see some WPT events covered in that style.

I don't think they'll be letting Mark Seif near any holecams anytime soon.

I liked that the PPT showed good poker players, not just the over-the-top showmen that often get the most air-time during other events.

The editing could have been improved, but how hard would that have been to achieve in 2007?

I also would have no problem with a change of commentators, obviously several of the top picks were busy playing in the event itself.

I liked the exchange between Mimi Rogers and Scott Fischman when he drew out on her "nice hand Scott, you little bastard". I think her tone was such that he would not have taken offence at all.

James Woods was also good to watch, especially when you rewatched and saw him ordering a tomato juice, which Captain Tom received instead. Then his comment "I didn't like you when you were a second rate comedian, but I like you now", brilliant.

Yea that was definitely the case. If they care about where they stand in the eyes of other players they should just have a player of the year award based on votes of the top pros, just like the old WSOPs.

It wasn't just the announcers that killed it IMO. The whole production was cheesy. What about those applauds and AWWWWs you heard the non-existing crowd make during the hands? The idea was defenetly good and I enjoyed seeing poker players that have been around the block a few times. I'm more interested in the old school players than 20-something hot shot ballas.
