Re: Icy Pots, bitches!
Why is Duncan not on the team? Just doesn't want to bother with international play?
Also, wtf are icy pots? No luck on google, although I did find this gem on pokerpages: "Assani Fisher is from Palm Springs, CA, but currently resides in Las Vegas, NV. He is widely recognized as the greatest head's up limit follow the queens player West of the Mississippi River. His pots are more icy than the average person's." |

-None of them are above average passers. If we had a big like Webber, Divac, Miller, Sabonis, McRoberts, Noah, etc. then we could flash them into the high post and run the offense through them. [/ QUOTE ] WTF! Can you imagine McRoberts or Noah on the floor? Picture Josh McRoberts on the floor, with Kobe, Lebron, Kidd, and Amare. Now try to stop laughing. [ QUOTE ] Carmelo Anthony was our best player last time, and he continues to impress. I don't think he gets credited with this enough, but I really think hes a team-first type of guy. [/ QUOTE ] Again, WTF. I agree with most though. |

Re: Icy Pots, bitches!
Great post Assani, except the only rookies that should be on that team are Durant and Oden. Brewer, McRoberts (LOLOL), and Noah aren't on that level yet.

Go take a look at some of the boxscores of Team USA's recent games in the past few years, and notice all of the "scrubs" that had great games against our "team of All Stars." We need to stop thinking that its about putting the 5 most talented players on the court at the same time and start building a well rounded team. Our team has no good passing big men on it, and thats a big detriment in international play. Now you're probably right that right now McRoberts deficiencies would be too much for him to overcome and contribute in a positive fashion. However, if he turns into a solid NBA player(which admitedly is a big 'if') then I would definitely consider him for the team. [/ QUOTE ] Again, WTF. I agree with most though. [/ QUOTE ] I typed this all out in one sitting and didn't have time to proof read anything, so forgive me if I didn't communicate my points as well as I should. "Team first type of guy" might not have been the best choice of words. What I was trying to say was that the NBA is a much different type of game than international/college. The main difference is that superstars go one-on-one in clearout situations much more often in the NBA due to the increased spacing(deeper 3), lack of zone defenses, and other rule and philosophy differences. Some NBA stars have trouble adapting to the college/international type of setting, which usually requires more teamwork. Carmelo and Wade seem to adjust as well as any other players, as evidenced by their success in both college and the 2006 games. I could be using too small of a sample size here though, so take it FWIW. |

Re: Icy Pots, bitches!
[ QUOTE ]
Great post. If Kidd is going to log decent minutes, then I think just having a good shooter or finisher at the PF spot will be fine. I'd start Melo there, and have Battier in for defense & shooting at the SF. So we're looking at a starting lineup of something like: Dwight, Melo, Battier, Kobe, Kidd I'm not sure Lebron is capable of playing the Marion type of role at the PF. While he can finish & pass, he doesn't have Marion's defensive intensity nor is he nearly as prolific a rebounder. I'm not sure giving up rebounding for passing is a good trade. I want to see if Lebron can play as Kidd's backup, and bring in shooters like Miller off the bench to complement him. As of now (most of my knowledge based on your post), I like an 8-man rotation of: Dwight, Melo, Battier, Kobe, Kidd w/ Lebron, Miller, & Boozer (I didn't realize he was on the team, Amare otherwise). I also see our frontcourt as being our biggest weakness. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. You're forgetting about Wade here I assume, as I don't think you'd leave him out completely. My main concern from having Lebron/Melo/any other undersized player at the PF spot was defense. I don't really know enough about the average international PF to say for sure.....can these guys guard them effectively? If they can, then I definitely would like to go small. I love Battier, but I'm not sure about him starting though. I agree that Lebron can't give you everything Marion can. What I'm saying though is that he should be told to try to emulate Marion to the best of his ability. Also I think you'd be surprised at how much better Lebron(or any superstar player) can be at rebounding and defense if they are relieved from some other duties and told to concentrate more on it. I don't like your idea about Lebron as Kidd's backup. The ball doesn't move well enough when he is controlling it. With a team of all stars, you really have to go out of your way to make sure everyone constantly feels involved. Against undersized teams I would love to go with a lineup of: Kidd Wade Kobe Carmelo Howard Bench: Williams, Lebron, Bosh Spot Duty: Battier, Prince, Miller, Boozer, Amare, Durant, Paul Against bigger teams I think we'd have to go: Kidd Kobe Carmelo Bosh Howard Bench: Boozer, Williams, Wade, Lebron Spot duty: Battier, Prince, Miller, Amare, Durant, Paul I'm still scared of playing against zones though. If our offense really starts to struggle against a good zone then I'd switch things up and go with: Wade Kobe Miller Lebron/Carmelo Bosh Its still pretty crazy to me that we can't win with so much talent on our team. Look at the roster of the 2006 Greece team that beat us in the semifinals: Theodoros Papaloukas Sofoklis Schortsanitis Nikos Zisis Vassilis Spanoulis Panagiotis Vasilopoulos Antonis Fotsis Nikos Hatzivrettas Dimosthenis Dikoudis Kostas Tsartsaris Dimitris Diamantidis Lazoros Papadopoulos Michalis Kakiouzis Spanoulis is the only guy on that entire roster on an NBA team. BTW why is Elton Brand not playing? |
