Re: WSOP Moving to Caesars
The reason they hold it at the RIO (from what I can tell anyway) is that it's off the strip and is much more easily accessible.
If they moved it to Caesar's, do you realize what a NIGHTMARE it would be to get to, park, get out of, etc.? |

Re: WSOP Moving to Caesars
I just hope they stop trying to change the blind structures to A DONKEMENT format.. That's like trying to win the Masters golf tournement with a driver and a putter only allowed.

Re: WSOP Moving to Caesars
Do you realize there are 10,000 people and the structure was changed already that favors the less skilled.

Walking there from any number of the strip properties becomes much more viable. Walking across the interstate to the Rio totally sucks. pretty much have to drive/cab/shuttle if you're staying on the strip. If they did this when I was there in 2005 and put up at the TI it would have made things much easier for me and I wouldn't have needed to take nearly as many cabs. having the WSOP off the strip is far more inconvenient to me. |

Re: WSOP Moving to Caesars
I heard the WSOP was being sold.
Very credible source who happens to be involved with the group buying it. I was kind of skeptical but some of the people are very high profile and they definitely have the money. |

I heard the WSOP was being sold. Very credible source who happens to be involved with the group buying it. I was kind of skeptical but some of the people are very high profile and they definitely have the money. [/ QUOTE ] partially correct rumor. Lets fix it. Harrah's is being bought out by two private equity firms, one of them includes Jack Binion. This is public knowlege, anyone with two fingers, a computer, and access to Google can learn this on their own. The real question is what will they do with Harrah's once its sold? The number one speculation is that they will sell off the properties because the realestate on the strip is currently valued greater than the income derived by the casinos. of course this doesnt figure in the non-strip properties such as tertiary markets and the Rio. Now where it gets interesting is Jack Binion. This time last year he was living in Maccau working for Steve Wynn. I have heard two rumors on the street, both from credible sources yet neither claim to know if their assumptions are correct. 1) Wynn will buy the WSOP as part of an intellectual property deal. This is possible, but as a business man I can't imagine them selling this off without the rights to Total rewards, the single most valuable players club in the casino business. That database is worth gold if integrated properly. The Wynn theory is interesting because of the number of underlings who have been busing about this, its possible that its based on truth - maybe Steve Wynn is an investor in the buyout? I don't know. 2) Jack Binion will buy the Rio and the WSOP assets. This is of course the rumor that everyone is most excited about, especially poker players. But truth be known, now that the WSOP is so huge I don't know if Jack would run it any better than Harrah's, so even if this rumor becomes fact we all might be in the exact same position next year at the 08 series. Even if both rumors are wrong, the facts remain that the Harrah's deal is nearly complete and Binion is a part of the buyout team. There must be some fact buried in the rumors, lets hope its a positive result for us all! |
