Re: prop players in vegas
[ QUOTE ]
Sam's Town was the last one to actively pursue prop players. [/ QUOTE ] How long ago was this? I heard rumours that the V was placing props into their games late last year. |

Re: prop players in vegas
How serious is this rumor? I might tell you that as a tourist who can't make the hours to get into the freerolls some of these rooms offer that all the locals who make the hours are props. By law they aren't, but I don't see a whole lot of difference. Particularly if they just chop the freeroll pool between every player who shows up for the tournament.
BTW, the room in question for the freeroll chop is the Luxor. |

How serious is this rumor? [/ QUOTE ] Pretty serious. At the time, given the # and reputation of the different sources from which i heard it, I'd say 80-90%. I never actually asked when I was at a table as I feel it's kind of a pointless thing to do. Yes. I've heard the luxor (at least used to) regularly chop some of the (weekly?) freerolls. They wouldn't even play the tourney. . .just split up the dough. |

Re: prop players in vegas
This kind of irked me when I made the mistake of playing there. I generally leave midweek, so I felt like any hours I played there were just wasted. I hate the Luxor room anyway, so I guess it's just as well I wasn't tempted to grind out the hours.

[/ QUOTE ] It is my understanding that V had some props when they were trying to get the mid limits going. I don't think that lasted very long. |

Re: prop players in vegas
What's the legal distinction between a shill and a prop player? Does the prop keep his winnings, but the shill returns it to the house?

Re: prop players in vegas
I played with a guy who claimed to be a prop at the Tropicana. He said he shows up for regularly scheduled shifts, is required to leave the game once it gets full, and cannot choose which games he plays in. He was old, tight, grumpy, and an overall nit.
I know for a fact that the Luxor uses props, but they use them infrequently. All the Luxor's props that I know of are dealers and for the most part they are -EV players, some of them extremely so. |

I hate the Luxor room anyway, so I guess it's just as well I wasn't tempted to grind out the hours. [/ QUOTE ] The Luxor offers a different promo virtually every day of the week. You can get into most of these without having to play any hours. Others you can get into if you've played more than 6 hours in the week, just as long as you have the front desk track your play. I don't want it to seem like I'm shilling for the Luxor here, as I think there are some things the room could do to improve itself. However, the complaint that tourists can't get into the promos is not a valid one. Just let the front desk know how long you're staying and ask them to track your hours and you'll get into the various promos that are running while you're in Vegas. |

A little known fact, prop players are forbidden by law to check-raise. [/ QUOTE ] This is not true. I am pretty sure shills cannot generate action. I might have been the last person to put s hill in a game in Vegas. That was in 2000. |
