Re: $100 hd-dvd players!!!!
[ QUOTE ]
Not to mention it's flat out wrong, as the latest NPD numbers put HD-DVD ahead in hardware sales, and this was before the recent price cut(s). Strange. [/ QUOTE ] It is ironic that you point out the first article is biased, and then your article link includes the VP of marketing for Toshiba. Not only that, the data excludes the PS3 because it is not a dedicated piece of hardware. Do they really think no one who is buying the PS3 for gaming is also using its blu-ray player? Or is it plausible to deny that some people are getting the PS3 because it is almost stupid not to while it is cheaper than a standalone blu-ray player? |

Re: $100 hd-dvd players!!!!
[ QUOTE ]
if hd-dvd players can be widespread this holiday season around the 100-150 mark, and blu-ray players don't match that, then it could be a tipping point is there any reason blu-ray can't match that price? is the blu-ray laser much more expensive? ps3 is cheap but sony loses money on that...i don't think i've ever seen a standalone blu-ray player for <$500 before [/ QUOTE ] i think you can find 1 or 2 models around 350 http://www.dbuys.com/product/?38628&...rt_id=19485363 |

[/ QUOTE ] NPD is an extremely objective source. The point of the article was verification of NPD numbers. Feel free to find other sources. I can promise you that he was not lying about an easily verificable source. And yes it does exclude PS3. If you include it, it becomes impossible to get any real measurement since you have to basically come up with some magic % of people that bought it more for a blu-ray player than as a gaming system. Toshiba will also be coming out with a line of mid-range laptops that will include HD-DVD drives. These will not be included for the same reasons. |

Re: $100 hd-dvd players!!!!
More verifiable numbers: nielsen netratings along with more NPD, from earlier in the year
From Q1->Q2 this year, HD-DVD hardware sales were up 37%, blu-ray were down 27%. HD-DVD software sales were up 20%, blu-ray were down 5%. |

[/ QUOTE ] Since they can't put a number on it, they just call it zero? That's wrong, and they are spinning the facts. If they only count about 20% of the PS3's sold, it would beat HD DVD hardware sales. And blu ray software sales are beating HD DVD 2:1 for the first nine months of the year. link |

[/ QUOTE ] obviously the ps3 movie attach rates are at least 20 percent which means almost a million more people have blu-ray viewing capabilities than hd-dud. if i saw numbers like that id be willing to give away a hddud player for free if u bought 5 movies just to get players out there..who cares how much money i lose in the short term. shoot id also give a main studio 150 million so theyd just sell my type of software....oh snap wait a sec that already happened |
