Re: On The Lot
A quick background on what's happened on the show up until now...
The show has been going on for awhile now. They had some "competition" type stuff like pitching a movie from a quick idea they give you, and making a movie with 2 other of the contestants. They then cut it from a bunch of people to 18, then they all made 1 minute movies, cut it to 15. The field was split up into 3 groups of 5, with each field getting a week to show their 3 minute short and 1 of that 5 getting sent home. This isn't the type of show I usually watch, but as an aspiring "filmie" I've been giving it a chance. It's kinda the combination of reality TV, American Idol, Carrie Fisher's medicine cabinet, and a film festival. All the contestants look fairly talented technically, but nobody's really taken a big risk and made something really interesting yet. The guy who made "Sunshine Girl" is probably the favorite, because he's the "special effects" type guru and he's been using them in pretty interesting ways so far. |

Re: On The Lot
watched the first episode yesterday. this show is pretty great. so glad that i was reminded about it.
as the very best participants remain, the show should get even better as it goes along. it will be fun to see what they come up with. |

Pryor is Marty of course haha [/ QUOTE ] Oh dear. I laughed. So I've been watching this show along with the rest of you. I wanted to add my thoughts which are pretty in line with what's been said here already. - First, Carrie Fisher is pretty odd. I laughed at Barcalounger's "medicine cabinet" comment. Not that I dismiss all of her points. She is actually correct on some of them. It's just her ability to communicate quickly and clearly that's a little messed up. - Second, I do think all of these guys, with the exception of the girl who did the horror flick, have some talent. I suspect that making a short must be really difficult! I mean how do you tell a story in such a short amount of time? I think some of them have done amazing things with camera work. - I agree with the guy above who said that the musical was the best thing done so far. That was pretty impressive! - I thought Sunshine Girl was interesting but I didn't think the "story" was all that great. Then again, I'm not saying I could come up with anything better. I just didn't like the sappy music and the fact that I thought he screwed up the very beginning of it. - No love for the guy who did the story about the dude who's blood had healing powers? I sort of liked that one. - Now, about the girl who did the horror flick. How could anyone be this clueless? Why didn't she make the tree branch pierce or prune the guy? (Also, her short the other week was just terrible too. You know, the one about the lightbulb.) |

Re: On The Lot
She is fresh out of film school...that is atypical type of film school thinking.
Shorts aren't that hard...most of these people probably have had some film school/class type training so they really should be able to do better...making a great one is hard cuz most people can't come up with a great story even if they have great directing ability. the blood short was a great idea/concept but terrible casting/camera work/and story. Basically terrrible execution. |

Re: On The Lot
yeah, I guess you are right. I agree with you that the camera work on the blood story was pretty annoying. Very annoying. and the ending was poorly executed. haha! I guess it wasn't as good as I thought it was. Gah.
What do you guys think of the director who does the silent films? Any good? |

Re: On The Lot
He's good at making simple films...I don't believe he ever went to film school etc...the big question will be can he handle actors/write dialogue/etc to seperate himself from the musical guy and the FX guy.

Charlie,
what did you think of Marty's talents? Does he have potential to tell stories? |

Re: On The Lot
I've been watching the show from the beginning and while the idea is great, the execution is terrible. If I wanted to watch a show mimic American Idol, right down to the host's lines (America voted...and we'll find out after the break), I'd watch American Idol.
Marty was a jackass. Do the [censored] assignment. Great, you are really artistic and [censored]. Now tell a story. |

Re: On The Lot
shucks, the innanet doesn't have ep3. i really don't like it as much now that they are in the theatre. i prefer all the behind the scenes stuff. now it's been spielbergized. that chick who hosts is very inauthentic.
zach is my boy. |
