Re: The murder of children in AC land
Everyone. Wouldn't you? Or is there something wrong with you?
There was a time when child prostitution was perfectly acceptable. It isnt now based on our societal values changing, not because of capitalism. There was even an emperor who had sex with children then threw them off a cliff when he got tired of them (2000 years ago). How are you with "anarcho-capitalism" going to stop individuals from deciding that this is once again acceptable, when the only principle you are guided by is capitalism, without "laws". |

Re: The murder of children in AC land
Its not the acquiring of capital? Theres hidden rules about morality somewhere in capitalism? Where? Looking on wiki right now, and I dont see any set of moral laws or even guidelines.
Capitalism generally refers to an economic system in which the means of production are mostly privately [1] owned and operated for PROFIT from wiki, first sentence. I put the big part in capitals, since the rest is done for the outcome, which is the last word: PROFIT |

No. By your reasoning buying a video game is irrational. It costs money and takes away time from productivity. People who act purposefully and assign utility to objects which drain resources are not irrational. You can't ignore utility curves.

[ QUOTE ]
This is ridiculous. By this reasoning there is no reason to go on a caribbean cruise; why would you pay tons of money to take a decadent vacation when you can stay home with your wife, go to the pool, and save a bundle? People have natural incentives to reproduce. They want to reproduce. Duh. The mere fact that there is a voluntary drive makes reproduction fully consistent with capitalism. These people going on cruises arent following capitalist principles. If they invested that money instead, how much sooner could they retire? Is it more than the 7 days or so the cruise lasts? Could they retire at least a few months earlier? Same goes with buying SUV's, etc, and especially having children. Over the long run, a child is a large net drain on a parent's finances. I thought we were talking about capitalism here, not people's irrational wants and desires. Isn't it profit and wealth that capitalism is about? [/ QUOTE ] You really need to solidify your understanding of capitalism. In particular, the fundamental tenet of capitalism is that the means of production are privately owned (as opposed to being publicly owned by the state). This results (theoretically) in a more efficient use of productive means. The theory of capitalism is not based on the assumption that all individuals act to maximize their personal profit through lack of consumption. Consumption is a key component of the capitalist economic cycle (where do you think the "demand" line on the supply/demand chart comes from?). It is not viewed by capitalists as "-EV" to buy something to eat rather than investing the money. |

Isn't it profit and wealth that capitalism is about? [/ QUOTE ] No. Capitalism is defined as the natural distribution of privately-owned resources in a free market. That's all. What individuals do with those resources is up to them. Some may elect to work hard, save, and invest. Others may elect to work little, live cheap, and spend their money quickly. Both occur within capitalism, and neither is wrong. |

Frizz,
When your incoherent blather about capitalism starts being refuted by non-ACists, that should be a signal that it's time to find another thread to troll on. |

On an individual basis, what is the disired outcome? Isnt it profit? |
