[ QUOTE ]
If I do 10/10/7/4 with 5/25/100/500 should I start with 10/20 or 15/30? Also do most home tourneys have an ante. I've never held one with an ante but I think it might stimulate action in the later rounds as the group I play with tends to play tight.

[/ QUOTE ]

1. If you can, try for 15/13/11/3 with 5/25/100/500. That'll impress the boys and reduce changemaking.

2. You could even start 5/10 then 10/20, 15/30, 20/40, 25/50, chip up 5s and big jump to 50/100. Otherwise, I prefer 150BB to start so 10/20 is for me. Again, good players will be impressed.

3. Most standard tournaments go from 100/200 to 100/200 with ante 25. It is a good idea but you should make sure of a standard procedure for anteing. E.g., dealer collects all antes before dealing the cards. If you have beginners and the button deals (i.e. dealer rotates), then this may slow things down but what the hell, they have to learn eventually.

I was just sticking to the standard color scheme for chips, red=5 green=25. I didn't really think about using a red T10 chip.

Why don't you just ditch the $5 chips and start at 25/50? Of course, I'd want t2000 more starting chips.

That would work. Should I Just give everyone 4 more T500s or use two whites as a T1000 chip?

Are you attached to a T3000 tourney? There's reason it isn't on HomePokerTourney, it's because it doesn't fit well with the common chip distributions.

We'll need to know what chips you are using, how many or each color/denomonation.

How long do you want your tournament to last.

Can you answer the question "Why do you want to have a T3000 tourney instead of T1000 or T5000?"?

I just chose 3000 because most online tourneys are T1500 and I wanted a bigger starting stack and slower blinds. Theres nothing wrong with T5000 but I was trying to use the normal denoms for red, green, black and blue being 500 values. I don't like the idea of having a white chip be T25 or T10.
But I would change it if i didn't have enough chips.

The set I am using is as follows:
White: 200
red: 200
blue: 150
green: 100
black: 50

If you want to emulate what they do online then why don't you do a T1500 tourney with the same structure as on-line?

My recommendation is to use the HPT T1000 structure and add 5/10 as the first blind level.

You don't have enough of the right color'd denoms to stay within standard, you are going to have to deviate. Just make sure to figure it out and use the create-a-blind poster from HPT and post a few around the room so that people can quickly figure out what the chip values are.

Blinds from skitzo...

25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
250/500
300/600
400/800

T5000
Green (Standard): 8 x T25 = T200 (80 chips)
White (I know not standard): 18 x T100 = T1800 (180 chips)
Red (Close enough to purple): 6 x T500 = T3000 (60 chips)

Black: Chip up to T1000 when needed

This is just off the top of my head, it may work...

For mine, I use T3000, with 8/8/4. I start the blinds at 25/50, and use a 75/150 level. No antes. Very annoying. I usually have 8 or 9 players and get in two tourneys within a four hour period. My group would rather play two tourneys with not-that-deep stacks than one deeper stack tourney.

If you're going to use T5000, I would just use 8/8/8. I see no reason to have 18 $100 chips. But that is just my preference. My group doesn't like a lot of chips on the table. We often have to make change from each other, but it does not slow up the game and it does not annoy anyone. Just what we're used to.

If I go with T3000 with 5/25/100/500 denom chips. Should I started the blinds at 10/20 or 15/30 or 5/10 even?
