Re: Stars $22R: Is this guy a genius or a donk?
ASPoker, I disagree with this post....a little bit anyway.
You SHOULD rebuy, ONCE. Only once and in the last 5 minutes of the tourney and only if you should bust out completely. Never add-on as this is a waste. As members of this forum, due to our study of the game, dilligence, and hard work, it is obvious we are better players than most of the competition that play these wild rebuy-fests. For that reason, we can make it through the rebuy period with a minimal investment, thus greatly enhancing our $EV. WE DON"T NEED THE EXTRA CHIPS, because we're that much better than the others. If we should happen to bust, make sure it is near the end of the rebuy period. Doing so earlier would entice us to rebuy, and as ASPoker indicated, it is a waste of money to rebuy. The money really adds up and affects our profitablilty. Because we are so much better than the average donk, we can grind our stack of 1500 chips for a couple of hours and hopefully get to a point where we can wait for AA and double up. Then if we double up a couple of more times, we have an average stack and are back in the game, with FAR less investment than the average donk rebuyer. I'll ask one of the "math guys" (as they would OBV back me up on this) to put this into Pokerstarve and show the difference in $EV. Using the Stars $3R $30,000 Guaranteed as an example, while having only $3 invested SEEMS logically like we would have a higher EV, what the math will show you, variance excluded, that $6 is actually optimal....it goes along the lines of the fact that the average investment is actually somewhere in the $9 - 12 (3 - 4 rebuys) range on a rebuy. Then calculate the starting stack amounts, of course accounting for the fact that the add-on is usually 2000 chips, throwing in the average number of hands played by your standard 30/15/5 player over the course of say 600 hands in a rebuy you will arrive at a ROI somewhere in the 65% range assuming 18% ITM. (Math guys, show us the exact formula). So, bottom line, rebuy once. |
