Re: Wynn to MOVE poker room (was: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room)
How many players come in and see a game larger than 4/8 or 1/3 at the Wynn and play it because they saw it from the rail? It may be good for the card room, but putting a game by the rail is meaningless for the bigger than minimum limit players. They don't play against the railbirds.

Most of the games by the rail are 4/8 and 1/3, occasionally 2/5.

You are correct that fewer players leave the rail to play mid-high limits, but you seem to ignore that almost all the players in your current game, started on the rail. Players may not leave the rail and go directly to your game but the rail feeds the entry level games and the entry level games feed the next higher levels, etc. |

Re: Wynn to MOVE poker room (was: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room)
Well, it sounds like it will be a very pretty room, with a lovely ambiance. Without visibility to passers-by, it could also become very rocky. Unless top-shelf liquor served by attractive young women is sufficient to draw poorer players. It may well be---dunno. Wouldn't do much for me, but I'm not a guy.
VIP high limit slots seems an odd choice to pair with a poker room on the "island", however. Wouldn't table games make more sense? |

[/ QUOTE ] I was on a break smoking by the rail, when this guy that had been watching comes over and asks "So what are you playing up there (pointing to the top section)?", "I am in the 5/10 game, there is a 10/20 game and 80/160 mixed game going", "Thanks.." About 15 minutes after I am back, here he comes, plops down $1K and proceeds to prove that he has never played in a casino in his life, donates about half and leaves. I was playing some 2/5 one time on a table next to the rail. A couple of ladies are watching the game... Folds to the BTN who raises, folds to the BB in seat 9 who is about to RR when one of the ladies... "OH! Look he has aces!". He was not super careful looking at his cards, but he was not flashing them around either... The rail needs to be there, but needs to be back further. |

That blows. The room is in the perfect location right now. The very, very slight bother caused by railbirds is more than offset by the skank parade late night on the way to the parking garage. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, that parade at night does provide some nice eye-candy w/o the cost of a club. One of the benefits of Wynn's room is that it's so damn close to the parking garage, unlike Venetian's room. I like the idea of having one main room though, you have to wonder if Venetian / Palazzo will keep it at one room. |

Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
On several occasions I have overheard random people approach the sign up board at the wynn asking what no limit games they can play and obviously do not have much if any experience with live poker. When asked what stakes they want to play they often say whatever opens up first. at the time, that included everything from 1/3 to 10/20 and the guy ended up in the 10/20 game. Clearly these type of people probably decide on a whim they want to play poker and money doesn't really matter and those are people you want in the game that might not otherwise be there if the poker room is in a secluded location.

Re: Rumor: Wynn to close it\'s poker room
[ QUOTE ]
The original plan (a few years ago) was to have a poker room at both locations. They also thought the current room would have taken all of the high limit action in town so a change of plans would seem likely. [/ QUOTE ] Your version of the origional plan makes no sense, why would they have 2 poker rooms? The origional plan as per my meeting with Wynn VP of Marketing 2 years ago was to place the new poker room in the middle of the pit, in a pool like indentation on the floor so you can look down on the games, surrounded by table card games. I was told this in the first three months or so of operation at Wynn if I remember correctly, it was during the same meeting that I learned that Wynn was planning a third theater for Spamalot which was originally going to postpone Encore development to reallocate resources - but that was canceled since Avenue Q closed. |
