Philosophically speaking, since the tournament was advertised with a *guaranteed 1M first place* (I believe the casino guaranteed it), shouldn't they be compelled to pay 1M to first even if only 1 person votes for that option?

WOW

Sounds like abit of back peddling to me by the host casino/WPT?

Either way if the PLAYERS voted on it,then I guess the 1MM guaranteed 1st prize now spread out to the final nine is fair!

GL guys/gals!

I agree with this. If whoever wins this thing voted for winner take all and wants to sue the WPT for the difference, shoot me a PM.

I played with a gentleman named Rhynie at the Bike Legends event, and he claimed to own the casino in Turks where this WPT event is being held. Naturally, he was talking up the place and the event a fair bit, and he repeatedly referenced the fact that he/the casino was guaranteeing 1M for first.

I think it's a really bad selling point/marketing tool to begin with, but if you're going to use it to promote the event, it seems obligatory to furnish what you advertised. Is there even a million TOTAL in this prizepool after withholding?

Edit: From cardplayer.com, the official news provider of the World Poker Tour:

Day 1A at the Turks and Caicos Poker Classic Cancelled
The World Poker Tour has landed in the Caribbean* for a tropical tournament here at the Turks and Caicos Islands. With a guaranteed first prize of $1 million, quite a few notable pros have already arrived, and we expect more to arrive by the end of the day.

So, to recap:

The guarantee didn't succeed in attracting more players, and it was a lie, anyway.

After hearing this crap now,its giving me the creeps thinking about that CEO Poker fiasco over the summer at the Venetian.

These casino's and sponsers HAVE to start taking some responsibilty here,as it seems their main/ONLY goal is raping the players prize pool.....or worse!

I hope someone brings legal action for this. I didn't go to this event, but if I did and they pulled this I'd be -beyond- pissed off. I wonder what legal footing a player has in this case, since this event is not on US soil.

It sounds like the total prize pool is less than $1 million. If the casino want to make this guarantee, decide to make it $1 million winner-take-all, and leave it up to the players if they want to redistribute, then I suppose that is arguably acceptable. But how can the casino get away with awarding less than $1 million total?

I think the total prizepool is 998-ish plus the 25K seat, so it IS over one million, but your point is still valid. I really wish someone had pressured them into paying the stated guarantee, in order to highlight the absurdity of not allowing chops and of advertising retarded guarantees to begin with.
