Someone please tell me about Radar Detectors

This sounds like it might be more dangerous than you give it credit for. On a highway, meh, no big deal. I've seen stop signs leap out at me from behind the bushes they were tucked away in many times.

laser= when cops are stopped and pointing a lasr gun at you

radar=still much more common than laser

I have a V1 and like it. Others like Passport. Personal preference.

Does the "laser" radar detector work on both types of police radars? What kind of range does it work at? Have you gotten a ticket since you've had a detector?

i have a passport and a valentine 1. i usually just mute them both. they go off about anything, especially the valentine. like, srsly anywhere you drive the valentine picks up like 5 hits. its annoying as hell.

well they are better for highway than in the city.

I dont know about that cheap costco one, but a good radar detector will be like $400 or something, not $90.

I've got an x50 and it does go off too much. I'm too lazy to program it but I would probably disable Ka as I think that is ancient and cops don't use it anymore.

maybe pay attention when you drive? I don't see how you miss speed limit signs when it says to slow down. What you mean is that you see them but you don't care enough to slow down. you were doing the equiv of 50mph in a 30, thats pretty far over.

As far as radar detectors, Im not sold that they're much good. if the cop isn't zapping cars in front of you, you won't pick it up, and if there aren't many cars mostly you'll just get a beep telling you that you just got caught. its not super-effective on non-interstates either.

yeah, can i give the common sense advice of stop speeding? i don't get it. choosing to go 90 in a 60 is a choice just like doing anything else throughout your day. if you're always late/having to speed to get somewhere on time, leave earlier so you can drive normal speed and arrive on time.

oh yeah I don't use the X50 anymore. Used to get speeding tickets as teenager but I just wised up.

1) on an empty road or start from a light I make sure I'm not the lead car
2) know my speedtraps and generally where cops hang around
3) don't do anything that makes me stand out

basically, i'm not a crazy speeder. I just have trouble driving at speed limit when Im off highways. I might go 15-20 mph over.
