I voted for Contra because I loved it and used to play it over and over. I never got into Zelda.
With that said, I must say I believe Zelda is probably the better game. It had a lot more going on than Contra. Contra was really easy. Once you knew the Konami code, it was a cake walk. In fact, it was the first video game I ever "beat." Zelda, on the other hand, was revolutionary. I think it was one of the first of its kind, a strategy/adventure/role playing game. It always seemed complex to me. Maybe that's why I didn't want to play it when I was 10. Who knows? All I know is that many people swear by the original Zelda as the greatest game ever. Wasn't it also the first video game that could actually "save" things when you turned the system off? |

Contra and Zelda can't be on the same vote.
Staring at the two names and realizing I had to choose one made me nauseas. |

For those of yen's whose testicles hadn't dropped yet, can I point out the innovation of Zelda? I loved and may have played more contra because of the multi player aspect, however, it is no competition as to which is the better game. Zelda.
1)Saving. We're talking about the ability to store data from session to session, something that was a pain in the butt even on my 286 computer. Now it was availible in a solid state cartridge. 2)Hidden zones. Level five? Lost hills. That was pretty original. Bombs to find hidden areas. I mean seriously the complexity of some of those dungeons was excellent. 3)Boss tactics. Yes other games had boss patterns to beat, but Gannon's fight was an original in my opinion. 4)Non linear gameplay. You could skip around dungeons, even going so far as to get some items way before their intended time. I really love contra, but guys, come on. |
