Wear a proper shirt when you go to buy a suit. Don't just roll up in a t-shirt.

Cuffs, Cuffs, Cuffs!!!

I still get a kick out of seeing someone without them.

Should have gone pleat-less. Pleats are out of style and for old men.

This suit from Banana Republic looks good:

eric,

i would have prefered no pleats, but i don't think it makes much difference since i will have my jacket on most of the time and the pleats won't be visible.

i like the suit in your picture, but my local banana republic only had 3-button suits, and i needed something pretty quick.

another question - the salesman said i might want to have the sleves lengthened slightly. the jacket is a 40L, and the sleeves seemed good to me, but what do i know? how far down are they supposed to go?

Far enough so that you can still see a little bit of the cuffs on your shirt.

1. Cuffs are great. They add a little weight to the bottom of the pants to reduce the likelihood of the pant legs riding up.
2. Pleast. Thumbs Up.
3. Single-breated is the way to go. Double-breasted can get hot and if you unbutton them to cool off it looks like crap.
4. Make sure jacket sleeves are short enough where your shirt sleeves are visible. 1. It looks better. 2. The exposed shirt helps keep you jacket clean from sweat from the wrist/hand.

That means be sure to err on the side of having your sleeves a little too long rather than a little too short. Shrinkage can change that pretty quickly, too. So longish sleeves are the way to go.
