Re: Jackpot coming to Venetian
Jackpots actually can and do work well. I think it's a good idea for the Venetian at this point. It certainly can't hurt.

Re: Jackpot coming to Venetian
Well the jackpots will drive away a few good players, but they sure will attract the local nit jerkoff jackpot chasers. The "best" part is that now that the V stupidly started spreading 2-4, they will almost certainly draw the jackpot chasing min buy in super nasty local nits away from places like palace station. Like the ones that get pissed off if you bet the turn "because there's already $20 in the pot."
Moving the couches back for more rail space is a fine idea. Of course since the V doesn't seem to care about such things, as they usually spread the games going backwards into the room. And move that stud table away from the front of the room, and for cripes sake don't spread hold'em on it and jam in ten players! You are right, the V is sucessful already. Why they want to attract mid limit games escapes me. They charge ridiculously low time to attract players who cause far more problems, tip less, and of course get more comps for their graciously allowing you to deal with their bullcrap. Screw the mid limit players, leave them for the B. It's just not cost effective to try and attract their business. The V should listen to the advice on these forums, but historically we all know these places usually don't. Al |

Re: Jackpot coming to Venetian
The Jackpot is ok if they stop the drop at 15/30 and 5/10 no-limit.
the only way to build the mid-limit game is by building the feeder base for it. As for the 25/50 game in the back, these players requested moving back there. This was done for there piece of mind when all the cash is on the table. As for Lee being canned, he requested the move back to his old position. Also, before moving tables and couches around other items needed to be addressed in the room that have more negative impact than the rail situation. |

Re: Jackpot coming to Venetian
I just can't stand it anymore...every time there is a discussion about "how to improve the V" the first and usually only idea is, "Put this game or that game on the rail".
ARE YOU PEOPLE KIDDING ME? The Venetian has done everything possible for poker players, putting the 5-10 game on the rail is not going to help. Yea, that's exactly what will make a tourist feel welcome...a bunch of green and black chips piled to the ceiling. Here's what the problem is with the V...it has a bad reputation of being slow...which it usually isn't (it just appears that way). If the people who post on here would give the Venetian some praise once in a while, instead of constantly nit-picking to get their own agendas met. |

[/ QUOTE ] I would somewhat interested in seeing how you support the argument that the room isn't usually slow? perhaps we go at different times, but my experience is that it is usually slow. I know you say it only looks that way, but I have to base it on what I see. I mean if they have a bunch of games going on in a secret place that I can't see then maybe you are correct. However I believe that the reason that the V is usually slow is that there are two many poker rooms and poker tables in thsi town, and the V can't really control that. |

[/ QUOTE ] Dear Professor Clueless; I am writing in response to your recent post on two plus two.com. The subject appears to be how to get more business for the poker room at the "V". To increase business, you need new players and new players come from the rail. Trying to attract players from other rooms is fine but you the player that you are most likely to get is not the type of player you really want. If they are more concerned about the comps than gambling, your games will suffer. The tourist, that has seen poker on TV and plays in a home game is often intimidated by the poker room, after all most are walled off and many uninformed people will think they need permission to enter. A poker room the has a large rail area and uses it properly will be more successful at attracting new players. Sincerely; Steamboatin |

I was informed that you were an employee there when you first started posting here, I think this needs to be shared with others if your going to make claims like this. Pot. Kettle. Black. |

Re: Jackpot coming to Venetian
on jackpots:
an old regular at a local casino in OK pointed this out to me once, and i thought it was a decent ideal. if you're going to have a jackpot, why not keep it small (like A's full of T's beaten)? these huge jackpots that get up to 50k plus are bad for the poker economy imo. if someone wins 25k, odds are that they are going to go buy something nice with it, and the money will never again circulate throughout the poker room. otoh, say you win 2-3k, there's a good chance you'll be adding it to your poker bankroll, and it will continue to be part of a game. of course, this was for a casino in oklahoma where a majority of players are regs, and i think it was a great idea. i don't know how well this would hold true in a place like vegas where a majority of players are tourists. |
