It isn't so much sarcasm as dramatization. Whatever, LA's less dense than NYC, I've never been to the city. Unless you work for the US Census I don't really see how that's anything more than slightly amusing.

[/ QUOTE ] They aren't measuring the density of the cities; they are measuring the densities of the urban areas, which by their definition includes all of the land up until the point where it becomes rural/vacant. So they are calculating lots of land outside of NYC as being part of its urban area.
