my main problem with the sports coat, jeans, T-shirt look is that at least in Portland it's all you really see anymore. So if you go out to a popular bar you will 20 guys with the same coat + either green or red t shirt + jeans. Makes me feel like I'm at the Gap.

I give the coat a thumbs up, but I really dislike it with the khakis / sweater combo going on there. It's a slick coat, though. |

Speaking of which, what are common fashion mistakes made by 18-35 year old males? [/ QUOTE ] Never tucking in their shirts. I guess sometimes this is OK but in that age group people never seem to tuck in their shirt tails outside of the workplace and they should. In fact, I believe GQ has an article about this in the current issue but I have not read it yet. Wait, in fact here it is: GQ Article |

I need advice with shoes. I have all the tennis shoes I need right now, but would like to get a pair of stylish casual shoes (think puma) and one nice pair of shoes (think brown and try to avoid dress shoes). Advice on brands/styles/specific shoe?
thanks |

[/ QUOTE ] If the T-Shirt is trendy / hipster enough, and you're wearing trainers, you've also described LA - which is actually a big reason I avoid the "One outfit I've seen mentioned here is a designer t-shrit, sport coat, and jeans" as it has become very passe (I would guess that in say Boston or Chicago this is less true). [ QUOTE ] What things have gone out of style that are still seen far too often [/ QUOTE ] One thing that jumped to mind is wearing lighter-blue jeans - always looks bad, imo. -Al |

ME,
Your thoughts on shoes sound just like mine. Perhaps I should have been more explicit . |

I think that coat would go well with either dark jeans or brown pants, and maybe a dark green shirt? I don't know, the shirt I'm having a harder time with. I'm generally better at knowing whether something looks nice than just picking what will off the top of my head. I know the white sweater shirt sucks. Wook, "Speaking of which, what are common fashion mistakes made by 18-35 year old males? " Shoes is a big one. But I think the biggest mistake is sizing. So often I see young bucks trying to look nice, but completely screwing it up because their shoulder seams are down near their elbow, or their pants are bunched up too much at the feet. |

Colin, agree with everything you said in terms of in what department young people eff. up. Another around here (montreal college scene) is running shoes and winter jackets. Esp. winter jackets. Alot of people have the same ones from 4-5 years ago and look like they are ready to hike to baffin island.
edit: colin, this the type you meant ![]() |
