A better tell, in my experience, is the guy who shakes his head disgustedly when an apparently dangerous card comes on the river and then bets. I once beat a guy who shook his head in 1984. Haven't beaten a head-shaker since.

As long as we're on the topic here's another:

Betting gets capped. One of the blinds asks the dealer: 'How much is it to me?' Aces for sure.

I just came back from a cruise on Royal Caribbean, and they had a poker table in the boat's casino. I played a total of like 20 hands the whole week because I spent most of the cruise climbing Mayan ruins, snorkeling in Honduras, and relaxing on a beach in Cozumel.

The first night was 5/10 LHE, and the other nights it was 2/5 NLHE.

Typical hand from the LHE game.

An EP limper, folded to me in the BB with 97.

Flop Q96 with 2 spades. I bet, he calls.
Turn Q. I bet, he calls.
River A. I check, he checks. His A2o (no spade) is good.

Hey Joker,

What was the rake on this game?

YOU RAISED?!? I RE-RAISE!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

This line is almost always spoken by a bad player with exactly the nuts. The only problem arises when they are sooooo bad they can't read the board.

[/ QUOTE ]

The wizards says "YOU RAISE? I RAISE YOU BACK" all the time and it usually means that he has 2 cards he feels like raising with.

Well, he is indeed a special case although the one time he did this to me he had a monster.

I love live poker. . .

A total drunk shows up and limps. It's heads up vs. the big blind.

Flop brings Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
bb checks, drunk raises, bb calls.

Turn is J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
BB check-raises, drunk 3-bets, bb 4-bets, drunk 5-bets, bb calls and calls blank river.

drunk rolls 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] "Now you'll never know what I have." true enough.

Utg limps, button raises, sb folds and his hand is exposed J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] bb folds, utg now thinks and turns over his cards Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] "well there go my outs"

Speaking of bad hand reading.. . .
I watched as a woman went 7 bets on the river with AA on a AK89T board vs. the only guy on the table that would chase gutshots. Everyone at the table told them to stop betting and that it was going to be a chop. I was yelling at them to stop because it's their right to go back and forth. Finally the player with QJ stopped and then looked very disapointed when he won the hand that he didn't go more bets.

I did manage to win a nice one from the same guy who limp folded Q4 when I flopped Queens full on a Q77 board heads up and we went 5 bets on the turn, he was nice enough to bet into me again on the river. He saw my hand and said "wooow" and showed me 75.

All in all, live poker makes me smile.

Live 10/20 I haven't played many hands and decide to mix it up by raising 7h6h after 2 limps. 3 or 4 players decide to take a flop. J43 no heart. 2 checks I bet 3 calls, turn 4 I bet 1 caller seated to my immediate left. River brings a K I look left to see if I should fire 1 more time but decide to give up. He checks, I almost say "you got it", I almost instamuck, but decide to table my lagginess and you guessed it MHIG.

Hey Joker,

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL that was another thing I forgot to talk about. Check this: 10% up to a max of... $15!!!

That's right, a pot of 9BBs, say, or $90 was raked 9 bucks. Bahahaha...

But that's nothing compared to the donkament they spread on the last day: $125 buy in, with 25% raked out -- so with 7 people buying in, it was a $700 prize pool with $175 taken out for rake. But the worst thing was the structure: you get 1,000 in chips and the blinds start at... 25/50! And the blinds go up every... 10 minutes!!!

I bought in before I found out the blind structure, and they wouldn't give me a refund. So I played. We drew for the button and I played hand 1 in the BB. After 2 hands I was down 100, so I had 900 in chips. 9 hands later the blinds were at 100/200 and I had 800 in chips. I pushed for 4BBs with A8s, got called by 33, and lost the flip. Fun!

Joker,

You should never go all-in for a coin flip so early in the tournament. This is a real rookie mistake. Your edge in this tournament comes from outplaying your opponents so try to build your stack steadily until the final table, which should happen, by my calculations, about the time you order your first margarita.

A pleasant, older African American gentlmen is playing 10/20 at the Borgata, drinking, talking it up, and just having a really good time away from his wife on the slots.

TAG on the button, black gent in early middle limps in. Flop is A8Jo. TAG raises, older gent calls.

Turn is a 9, Old gent checks, TAG on the button bets, older gent calls.

River is a deuce, older dude checks, button bets, older dude check raises, button calls, older dude shows down 8-2 of diamonds. TAG shows AK and has a few choice words of steam. Older dude says, "Your problem is you young guys read too many of the books. It doesn't matter what cards you start with, it only matters what the flop is." Young gun TAG angrily says "I don't read the books."

A few hands later,I get AK [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] on the button, TAG on the big blind, older black gent in middle positon. Older dude calls, I raise to 2 big bets, both call.

Flop comes A 10 8 offsuit. Checked to me and I bet, two callers. Turn is a 6, checked to me and I bet, two callers.

River is a 3.

Checked to me and I table my AK for top pair, top kicker. TAG in the big blind tables AJ and says "good hand." Older dude says "two pair" and tables 10-3. He starts spouting "damn, I thought you would figure that little old three on the river wouldn't help anybody, I was gonna check raise you. Why didn't you bet?"

I said, "I read all the books."
