i saw a news report recently that stated americans spend the least amount of their income on food(and we are fat asses) as a percentage of their income than any other nation. we are blessed.
not mentioned yet is canned tuna. .50 a can. if you dont like fish, kill the taste with spice or seasonings. |

I'm thinking dried rice/beans, eggs, fresh carrots/celery/onions, canned tomatos, maybe some canned meats (spam or tuna), powdered milk, probably get a bag of potatos in there too under $15.
The consumer 'rule of thunmb' in the US for grocs is $5 per person per day. That's figured without making any major sacrifices and keeping everyone well fed. With some shrewd penny pinching, $15 is doable. |

[/ QUOTE ] How was "food" defined? If it was in groceries, that makes sense. US News and World reports reported in 2000 that Americans spend more on dining out than they do on health care. That's probably changed since then. We're not spending our $$$ on food from the grocery store. We're spending our $$$ at McDonalds. I have serious doubts that any nation spends more on dining out than the US (per capita), even as a percentage of net income. |
