I know, I know... All in would be pointless.

Still, if you bet on the turn you could atleast be sure if you're beat or not.

Are you going to bet some small amount like $4?

If you want to know if you're beat or not, then calling that small river bet is the way to do it. You even get to see the cards then, so there's no doubt.

(I'm writing this with the knowledge of how small Villain bet on the river, so it's not as simple as I'm making it sound, I realize.)

This is fine if we're primarily playing for the short-stack's $3.90.

Which maybe isn't such a bad thing to do, but let's at least admit that that's the likely result of bigger raises.
