I was in Vegas a few weeks ago, and they had a game going at TI. I'm sure it was spread for a few friends and a few people who were willing to play with them. I think the table was just having fun and was switching from game to game.

Borgata will spread HORSE upon request if you have enough players (10/20 minimum), and they will also spread razz at the highest limits.

That was a rotation game, the OP is looking for a dedicated RAZZ game.

On my first trip to Vegas, 1995 or 1996, Treasue Island had a $1-5 razz game. Just razz, nothing else. I have never seen it anywhere else.

I didn't think that TI had a poker room back then, are you sure it wasn't the Mirage?

[/ QUOTE ]

Back then it did. There were a lot of poker room closings before the poker boom began. I don't think the TI room was open that long, but I know it existed.

Yeah it wasn't open for very long at all. I think I went in Nov.96 and it was a nice little room, maybe 4-8 tables; mostly 7-stud. I went back again early in 1997 and it was closed. It was the only razz game I have ever seen in a casino and it was a wildly soft game, maybe the softest game I have ever played in a casino. I remember the dealer kept reminding people that we were playing low poker and most people didn't even know what that meant.

Interesting discussion.

From SOP, it sounds like Razz was a big game in Las Vegas in the 1980's?

Anyone on this board ever play in any of those back in the day? Any stories?

I'm not sure I'd like to play just Razz in a live game. It seems like it might be kind of boring and is much better suited for HORSE. You might end up playing the same number of hands as you would NLHE (or maybe LHE), but it seems a lot of the big money decisions on 6th/7th street. I really like Razz, but I don't see this game "making a Casino comeback".

I agree it wont make a casino comeback, but it is NOT boring at all. You see tons of hands per hour because most never get past 3rd/4th street but the hands that see showdown are often a bloodbath. A very exciting game, the WSOP last year really helped it's reputation were as Norman Chad in 2003 really hurt the game with his idiotic ramblings about it being such a brutal game. Funny thing its rather common knowledge that an expert will have a much lower variance than at most other poker variants when playing Razz.

I wasn't aware of this, my understanding is that razz isn't approved by the CCC. Is it okay because it's 7CS variant or something? In dealing school they don't even teach it here. I'd never seen even HORSE in the city (though I have seen HOSE/SHOE on occasion).
