It wasn't just that the secondary was bad, their schemes sucked too. It was like their only defensive goal was to lead the league in run defense. When teams spread five wide against them they didn't adjust at all.

I bet the Minnesota defense improves with this guy gone. I'm shocked by this hire.

I was hoping for Grimm.

I agree with a lot of what Iggy is saying. I don't want to see a change to the 4-3 and don't think it's good for the team.

Also, my impression was that they were going to wait to at least interview Rivera so it is strange.

No report of this on ESPN or any of the local media sites. If this is a strong source, it would be everywhere here by now.

He was one of the three finalists. I can't imagine how Russ Grimm must feel. He must have interviewed terribly.

[/ QUOTE ]

This has to be it. I thought he was a foregone conclusion.

[/ QUOTE ]

Grimm was one of the finalists for the Bears job after Saban turned them down a few years ago. Word is that he interviewed very poorly at that time, and there were questions as to his level of intelligence.

2)Tomlin's secondary has been horrible in Minnesota. That's the Steelers biggest weakness on D.

[/ QUOTE ]

Minnesota has spent exactly one either 1st or 2nd round pick on their secondary since 1994. I'm going to make a guess and say that is the least investment of an NFL team. ?

Disclaimer: (I know little of the NFL and almost nothing about the Steelers or Vikes).

AT halftime of Duke/NCSt game they just reported that SI interviewed Tomlin and he said that IT IS NOT TRUE THAT HE HAS BEEN NAMED STEELERS COACH.

Yeah the Steelers struggle in coverage and are impossible to run on as it is; their defense should stay the same. Surprised they didn't promote Grimm like everyone else.

Similar on ESPN. Apparently it's not true, ""It is untrue," Tomlin said of the report. "I have no idea where it's coming from. I have not talked to the Rooneys today."
