Is it this

(9/y² - 1) / ( 1+3/y) or

something else?

Assume it's the expression above.

(9/y² - 1) = (3/y - 1) (3/y + 1)

That's from (x²-1) = (x-1)(x+1)


The two (3/y + 1)s factor out.

Therefore expression two is

(3/y -1)
