The time I tried Blue Moon I spit it out and asked the bartender, "Who peed in my Hoegaarden?"

Far and away my favorite beer. Especially good in summer, but really delicious anytime. I used to use an orange in it, but now feel like it stands up better on it's own. Reasonably hard to find in MD, and pricy (about 13.00/6). But worth every penny.

Great beer, although there are nicer less mainstream white beers out there.

my problem with that is you can really only find them at a nice supermarket or something and then they have most likely been on the shelf for god knows how long. I've tried to pick up some beers I've had in Europe in the states and often they're a little skunky.

I'm a huge Hoegaarden fan. I remember my 1st one like it was yesterday (obv didn't have that many that night haha).

Allegedely, across the atlantic, some people call them "hooligans" because once you start drinking them you're bound to get in trouble.

I don't like them with an orange (or blue moon, which IMO is much worse but still a good beer) but do enjoy a bit of lemon. No fruit is fine as well as the guys at the bar i always go to give me [censored] for drinking beer with fruit in it.

Heffeweisen (spelling?) is the other one i see out a lot. Though I think last time I had one out at the city they didn't give me one but tried to tell me they did. That happened at another place where i ordered a blue moon and they gave me a Sam Adams. Pssshhh.

I've been chatting up Hoegaarten in the 2+2 forum games for months. Blue Moon is the Budweiser of white ales (it's still pretty good for the money, though). I also highly recommend the Sam Adams white ale - very comperable to Hoegaarten, in both taste and price. At my local beer cooler, either one or the other (but never both) are on sale from week to week.

Yeah, Blue Moon is actually brewed by Coors. I don't really care though. It tastes great to me.

Also, I assume you are talking about Sam Adams Summer Ale. Also a really great beer, and I'll miss it once it's gone for the year.

They have this on tap over here. I think it tastes absolutely awful.

If you live in the northeast, you should be able to find much better Belgian whites than Hoegaarden. Here are four suggestions in order of my favorite to not quite as good, but still better than Hoegaarden:

Southampton Double White Ale (New York)
Allagash White (Maine)
Unibroue Blance de Chambly (Quebec)
Ommegang Witte (New York)
