Default Re: The Big Ten Network

there have been some big Illinois games missed in Chicago and Champaign/Urbana already

comcast is getting crushed in Chicago...with bball season coming, lots of Illini and other big11ten fans (plenty of Indiana and Michigan St fans in the area) bolting to dish network and directv

comcast is getting slaughtered around these parts now

I understand both sides of the argument

I don't like the move as a whole for the Big11Ten. No matter the strength of the conference, the big11ten has historically been the most visible. I'm worried that ESPN/ABC family might not be so happy when negotiating future long-term contracts.

I hate the freaking network, because they've done it poorly.
1) There should be a pay-for web feed (I'd pay for that and so would most others)....the only reason there isn't is the back-room deals and contracts
2) the BigTenNetwork has stuck with 11AM CST starts for most of its games even when broadcasting multiple games in a day
11AM sucks for stadium environment, tail-gating, student lifestyles, etc
The Big11Ten was traditionally a 1PM local start with moves for tv. Ridiculous that the conference's own network leads to such crappy starting times.

Indiana is having its best season in 14 years and its been more or less ignored in Bloomington because only 1 of the 9 games they have played thus far has been on TV here.
Over the last 5 years the university has sunk tons of money and effort in to PR to get people interested in the football team. Now that they're actually decent its going to waste because of the big ten network.

I've only been able to watch one Northwestern game this year.

No joke, I commute up to West Laf. a lot and here (my home), there, and everywhere it seems like I can't watch IU games. Not that I'd usually want to, but like you said, best season in ever (hey how's about one more win, it'd be nice to get a bowl game after last year) and they won't put the games on.

This is true. I don't go to watch B10N but I go for the Sunday Ticket. I have to plead and beg for them to put on the Jaguars games. Most of the time the entire bar yells at me for the first 20 minutes then get into the game and it doesn't matter. But, still, it's quite annoying.

That sucks pretty hard, Needle. Sounds like you need to find a better sports bar, or do you live in a small town where there's no better option? I mean if that happened to me, I would never go back to that bar again. The bar where I'm a regular every Sunday, there's more than enough TV's to play all the games and no one whines about which game is on which TV. I couldn't be happier with the atmosphere there.

Billy B,

Yeah, its the only bar that has Sunday Ticket, well there are only 3 bars in town, a college town no less. So I really don't have much of an option and quickly got Sirius radio so I could listen to the games on the radio if nothing else. They also have college games so I think it could possibly be an alternative to B10N as well.

I wish there was a sports bar closer than 30 minutes away with all the TV's and a great atmosphere you speak of. Oh well, at least when I'm home for break there are plenty of options there, obviously Jersey >> PA.

Not being able to watch Illinois road games on the BigTen Network in CHAMPAIGN WHERE THE SCHOOL IS makes no sense whatsoever.

While the BTN might increase coverage for other, lesser publicized sports like volleyball and soccer (which is very good), Big Ten football and basketball programs will suffer because they aren't getting any national coverage.
