Events like this are why I continue to coach Little League.

To add my own story, there's a kid who is struggling with the bat after getting a hot start at the beginning of the year. He asked me if I would work with him outside of practice and I agreed to do so, and both his parents and he are extremely grateful and love the extra work I'm putting in to make him a better player. He's very devoted and tenacious, and stays after every game to field some grounders and take soft toss.

It reminds me a lot of me just 12 months ago, when no one would work with me (unless I paid them). It feels good to give back.

Why didn't you respond to my BBV4Life post about your team? 2+2 demands a season update.

I don't get why that's such a great story. Make the story a a Div 1 college player who lost track of the count, and it's just sports.

Because the player cried and got emotional? You don't think teenagers and adults don't cry or get emotional during sporting events? Was he any happier than Luis Gonzalez was when he won game 7 of the World Series?

Eh, I kind of agree. This story is too sappy for me. I don't think the kid crying makes the story more dramatic. If anything, it detracts from the story.

The entire point of the OP, which was fantastic and worth several reads, was that children crying and getting emotional make youth sports great. Children are a hell of a lot more emotional than teenagers or adults.

Obviously it's impossible to really measure but while I wasn't there I would say yes, the kid was probably happier then than Gonzalez when he won the World Series. Certainly the swing from thinking he blew it for his team to the elation of being the hero is much larger.
