But every time you see him looking at her he's probably thinking, "DAMN. I tore that ass up!"

Does it make a difference to people whether she left him or he left her?

I think it might be worse if he left her and she really wanted him back, etc. Higher likelihood for residual feelings/attraction.

I am right now actually but it's easy for me.

I dated her all through high school, three years or so. After 5 years of not being in contact with each other we are dating again. They have a kid together so I really have no problem, and talk to him when he comes to pick up his son.

I slept with her first so whatever.

I was once, but one night we all ended up getting really drunk together and I starting demanding that they [censored] in front of me. And after much heavy handed coercion on my part they agreed. But they refused to follow my ensuing and highly specified instructions. So I just left in the middle of it never to see them again.

OP - I did this once, and it came back to bite me in the ass. 4 year relationship down the drain. I'd suggest not bothering, but I'm obviously biased.

one of my girlfriend's exes is one of my best friends. however their relationship was very brief and he is very nonthreatening, and i could literally kick his ass with one hand behind my back.

her other ex stabbed me with a chef's knife, we are not on such good terms

My last ex's brother is actually one of my closest friends right now -- works with me during the summer (I got him the job) and all. We are definetly tight, but I nearly refuse and try to avoid any kind of contact with his sister. Terribly awkward.

Yeah, totally sucks when your prude of a GF doesn't want to do multiple ATMs. I'd have done the same thing.
