Re: Who is Your Favorite President?
It's easy to pick the founding father presidents, since despite any shortcomings they were obviously great men without whom our republic wouldn't have been started or made it through the early critical years. But Washington still has to be head and shoulders over all subsequent presidents because he set the example of a self-limiting president serving only so long when he more than any other could have become a dictator or monarch.
But the main point of this day is that is sucks that Washington and Lincoln had to lose their own days and get lumped in with Millard Fillmore et. al. Note to Felix: Teddy would would have been very effective conducting the War on Terror and Totalitarianism and Islamic Extremism as well. |

Re: Who is Your Favorite President?
Are we listing our favorite men that happened at one point to occupy the Presidency, or are we listing our favorite administrations?
When compared to everything else Jefferson accomplished in his lifetime, his presidency is a disappointment. He was quite un-Jeffersonian while in office. That said, he was still a better executive than most. Of course, the greatest president was William Henry Harrison. If all other presidents would limit their administrations to what Harrison accomplished, we'd be monumentally better off. |

Re: Who is Your Favorite President?
Of all time? Jackson ranks up there for all the reasons already mentioned, plus he was a badass and from TN.
Of modern times? Reagan or maybe Truman. |

Re: Who is Your Favorite President?
I will add my vote to the OP for Jefferson. Yes, he was a hypocrite for owning slaves while proclaiming "all men are created equal", but his ideas were vital to the founding of our country, and I give him many points for siezing th opportunity and making the Loisiana Purchase. Also points for sending Lewis and Clark to explore the Louisiana Purchase. It is difficult to imagine what the USA would be like (or if it would even exist) without Thomas Jefferson.
