no one is discrediting this question, it is a fine question to ask. The fact is, it doesnt really matter, and you should probably be in the habit of not showing your cards over showing them. Showing your cards when everyone folds has little if any bearing on any situation that could arise.

The only thing I can thin of is it be marginally +ev to show good hands because it will make the other person less likely to shove.

I have show cards turned off, I see no use in it.
Showing your weak hands when you get a walk, makes me think you want your blind stolen. |

Online I never show my cards.
But in a Homegame, things are different. I show them a bluff or two, to make them pay me off for my strong holdings. Its kinda like "checking in the dark". And again, in homegames, I allways show my aces, as anybody else (espacially when I got the Ace of Spade) BUT ... IMO not the times you show your hand are the importnat ones, but the hands you DO not show ... Image the extrem case that you showed any hand that is twopair or better in a shorthanded homegame. And now you make a huge reraise on the turn or whatever and villain is folding his TPTK, NOW if you have twopair its the time to NOT show this hand ... he will be wondering why you did not show thistime, and come to the conclusion that you were bluffing any he may - only may have the feeling to "get you" next time... I dont say this compares to all players, I'm sure the worldclass highroller are not impressed by such things, BUT "Mr Avarage 50 Euro homegameplayer" will be... |

bones,
you are right as far as good players go. but bad players may think "i'm glad i folded he had a big hand". kind of emotional pavlovian reinforcement. you are of course 100% correct about good players, of course. |
