[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] For the love of god, please make more money and don't become a backpacker. [/ QUOTE ] Is there something wrong with being a backpacker? I get the sense they are looked down upon by some in other countries... not necessarily the locals, but other travelers. Is this correct? If so, why? [/ QUOTE ] Ahah [/ QUOTE ] could you possibly elaborate? [/ QUOTE ] You're a local, need money from tourism. Would you prefer -a well dressed, nice smelling guy spending a lot for his holidays probably with his family. -a backpacker with doubtful personal hygiene living on 5$ a day and bananas pancakes, partying in the street ( clubs are too expensive ) drunk on cheap beer But you are a backpacker already I think, so... [/ QUOTE ]Slow your roll please |

Re: Travel Adventure after graduation (june 08)
Another one...
So how was your trip to india? Feel spiritually elevated now? and what about the local meal with the local jungle tribe? learned more about yourself and living in harmony with nature? also: Backpackers are the ‘Scourge of Sydney’ http://blogs.smh.com.au/radar/archiv.../post_117.html Trying really hard to like india: http://www.slate.com/id/2107063/entry/2107072/ "I have a problem with backpackers. The problem is that wherever they are, I don't want to be. Partly, it's that I don't go somewhere like India so I can hang out with a bunch of 19-year-old German dudes (though I'm sure they're lovely people). Also, it's that I look at all these backpackers … and I see myself. And frankly, I don't like what I see. " The curse of backpackers in Thailand http://whatismatt.com/backpackers-in-thailand/ oh no. Backpackers in Thailand really do have nothing to talk about. and so on.... and so on... |

[/ QUOTE ]I would absolutely hate traveling with you. Being around someone with your attitude and outlook on the world would make me want to grab my backpack and get the hell away from you. You can easily get away from these types if you are a bit more creative with your destinations. If you hate backpackers, Thailand is about the stupidest place you can possibly go. |

Re: Travel Adventure after graduation (june 08)
Congrats, you successfully jacked this thread completely.
I've never really backpacked before. Most of my travel would be better categorized as legitimate, staying in real hotels, etc. I just hate your elitist and spiteful attitude towards the lifestyle. I have no idea why anyone with your midset would bother traveling in the first place. [ QUOTE ] like every backpacker you think you are different and know some 'creative destinations' others don't... you fit so well in the backpacker model it hurts [/ QUOTE ]If you can't figure out how to get away from backpackers then you're pretty pathetic. [ QUOTE ] yeah all thailand is about backpackers ahah sure [/ QUOTE ] Isn't that what you JUST said? Mods, request deleting every post in this thread by both me and this guy so the OP can get back on track. |

Re: Travel Adventure after graduation (june 08)
I've not done this myself, but found myself following this couple on their adventures when I came across their blog (her blog, technically). They travelled from New York to, and then around, Central and South America in a year, I think all by bus. Not sure if it will help you but I thought I would pass it along:

The first three replies are good. You're hardly the first person to do something like this, so I'm sure a few hours on google will yield some gold.
